The Handbell program is open to Adults and Youth (completed Grade 6 and above) participants.
Morning Rehearsal Track
The two morning ensembles in the handbell program at Music & Worship Arts Week 2018 will be:
This advanced choir features dynamic leadership and a group of players selected for their advanced technical and musical skills. They typically play Level 3-5 arrangements. This ensemble is usually composed of two five-octave choirs and 26 ringers. Auditions will be held on Sunday afternoon between 2–6 p.m. Following online registration, you’ll receive info about signing up for an audition/placement time. The Advanced ensemble will perform at the Handbell Concert on Thursday afternoon.
Intermediate Handbell Choir
A level below the advanced ensemble, this group is typically composed of one five-octave and two three-octave choirs. Ringers will need to exhibit a strong grasp of musical notation but will be challenged to further develop the skills necessary to take their ringing to the next level. This choir will be selected by placement auditions on Sunday afternoon between 2–6 p.m. Following online registration, you’ll receive info about signing up for an audition/placement time. The Intermediate ensemble will perform at the Handbell Concert on Thursday afternoon.
NOTE: Placement auditions for both groups will take place on Sunday afternoon ONLY!
A second Intermediate choir may be added if indicated by early registration numbers. All ringers are encouraged to register early (before March 15) so that we will have room for all.
Afternoon Beginning Handbell Seminar
An afternoon ensemble will be for Adult and Youth beginners. This choir is a non-auditioned, non-performing beginning choir. No advance registration is required. Open to youth and adults during the afternoon seminar time, this choir will concentrate on learning the basics of ringing handbells.
What do I need to bring?
- All ringers in handbell choirs and seminars are asked to bring gloves, handbell folders, and music riser (if you wish).
- Concert Attire (Thursday afternoon)
- White top, black bottom
